TOMS RIVER — The Jersey Shore Boca Soccer Club, in conjunction with its affiliated clubs, the Berkeley Soccer Association and the Lakewood Soccer Club, announced it will continue its Player Development Program series of training for youth players and will hold two summer sessions for boys and girls ages 8-13.

“The program focuses on developing the individual player’s skills, comfort and confidence with the ball, which is critical to their continued development in soccer,” said Jersey Shore Boca president Guy Lockwood, who will coordinate the program. “The program also mixes in balance, coordination and agility training to provide the participants a well-rounded athletic experience.”

The program is open to the public regardless of any participant’s current club affiliation.

The Player Development Program for players ages 8-11 will begin July 29 and end Aug. 26 (excluding Aug. 12). It will take place at the Berkeley Soccer Complex, Eastern Boulevard.

The eight and nine-year-old boys age group will begin at 6 p.m. while the 10 and 11-year-olds will start at 7 p.m.

The session for 12 and 13-year-olds will run through Aug. 18 and will take place at the John Patrick Sports Complex, Vine Street, Lakewood, and will begin at 7 p.m. each Wednesday.

“In my 20 years of youth soccer training, coaching and observation, I have found most programs focus on the individual needs of teams and focus less on the individual needs of players,” Lockwood said.

“Our program provides an open environment of learning focused on the individual’s development so each player can have the necessary skills, comfort and confidence to perform at or above their team level now and into the future.

“Jersey Shore Boca is excited to have the Berkeley Soccer Association and the Lakewood Soccer Club support this effort. We look forward to a fantastic program, which will certainly benefit everyone who attends.”

Plans for additional sessions for the fall and winter will be announced
