Honors Keep Rolling For Boca’s Cunliffe

U23 standout recognized by NSCAA and ECAC

GLASBORO, NJ (December 8, 2009) - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Tuesday December 8 that Rowan University junior shot-stopper and Jersey Shore Boca U23 standout Charlie Cunliffe (Lakewood) was named to the NSCAA Division III All-South Atlantic Region third team.

Cunliffe was also selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and earned ECAC Metro All-Star first team honors earlier this month.

The former Lakewood Piner compiled a 13-6-2 record this season with seven shutouts and produced a 0.91 goals against average, only allowing 19 goals in 21 appearances.

Cunliffe ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III men’s soccer statistics and first in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in save percentage (86.6).

He was second in the NJAC with 123 saves and a 5.86 saves per game average.

Cunliffe was tied for second in the conference in shutouts (7) and fourth in goals against average (0.91). Twice this year, he was selected the NJAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Defensive Player of the Week.

The standout shot-stopper was also named the NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year and to the All-Conference first team.

Rowan finished the season with a 13-6-2 record. The Profs earned a berth in the NJAC Championship Tournament and advanced to the conference final.

Cunliffe has been a member of the Boca U23 program the past three years and is also a veteran of several Boca youth teams during his career.

Boca has been a fixture in the soccer community since 1978 and is one of the most respected soccer clubs on the East Coast.

The Club is celebrating their 31-year anniversary in 2009.
