Boca GK Heads To Old Dominion University

Old Dominion University men’s soccer coach Alan Dawson has announced today his 2004 seven member recruiting class, which includes Jersey Shore Boca goalkeeper Jon Curry-Edwards. The standout GK is a two-year member of Boca’s Super Y-League teams and will be a part of the Boca U23 program this summer.

Alan Dawson Announces 2004 Recruits

Seven Recruits Include Midfielders, Defenders, Goalkeepers and a Forward

Old Dominion University men’s soccer coach Alan Dawson has announced the 2004 recruiting class, which includes two goalkeepers, a defender, a forward and three midfielders.

Jared Kent returns to the Monarchs after spending the past two years on a Mormon mission. A 5’6″ midfielder from Marietta, GA, Kent was a three-time Team MVP at Sprayberry High School, and was also named a Scholar Athlete there. Jared will add considerable talent to the Monarch midfield.

Edson Elcock, a forward, will join the ODU squad after signing a letter of intent last season. This past year, Elcock played for Wingate University, where he was named Freshman of the Year in the SAC conference after finishing 6th in the conference in goals and points. Elcock graduated from Brooklyn Friends School in New York in 2003 and is originally from Port of Spain, Trinidad. In high school, Elcock led his team to the State Final and won the New York State Championship with the Silver Lake Rams, a Region 1 Olympic Development Team based in Staten Island, NY.

Braden McPherson, a midfielder, comes from nearby Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, VA. The 5’10” McPherson was the Kellam team captain his junior year, earned 1st Team Beach District and 2nd team All-Region honors as a sophomore and was a Freshman honorable mention Beach District selection. McPherson won varsity letters his freshman and sophomore years.

A.J. Kulp is a 5’8″ midfielder from Ephrata, PA. During his time at Ephrata High School, Kulp was named one of the Adidas ESP Top 150 players in the nation, was a two-time NSCAA Regional All-American, two-time Pennsylvania All-State selection, two-time EPYSA ODP player selection and a two-time MVP of the Lancaster Lebanon League, as well as a three-year all-league selection while playing for Ephrata. Kulp currently plays on the FC Delco club.

Jon Curry-Edwards, a 6’3″ goalkeeper, comes from St. Rose High School in Brielle, NJ. During his high school career, Edwards recorded 33 shutouts. In 2003, he led his high school to the Parochial B South Championship while recording 17 shutouts. Curry-Edwards was named to the First Team All-Division, Second Team Monmouth County, Second Team Shore Conference and All-State Honorable Mention teams. His current club team is Jersey Shore BOCA and was a two-year member of Boca’s Super Y-League teams.

Bryan Fossi is a 6’2″ goalkeeper from Lilitz, PA, where he attended Manheim Township High School. In 2003, Fossi led his high school to the league championship to cap an undefeated season, while recording a .66 goals against average with 10 shutouts. He was voted coaches league all-star in both 2002 and 2003 and was the team’s varsity captain in 2003. Fossi was varsity captain in 2003 and was a three-year starter. He’s currently a member of the Leeds United FC club team and was named to the EPYSA state team in 2001 and 2002.

David Horst, a 6’4 defender, comes from Pine Grove, PA, where he attended Pine Grove High School. During his four year high school career, Horst was named to the Regional All-American and Pennsylvania All-State Soccer teams, and was the Schuylkill League Player of the Year, Soccer Scholar Athlete and was named to the first team all four years. He helped lead his high school to the PIAA District Championship and currently plays for FC Leeds United.
