Boca Splits With Ironbound in Super Y Play
July 2, 2001
Both the Boca U14s and U16s squared-off against the colorful Ironbound Strikers on Sunday at Toms River North High School in a cross regional Super Y-League double-header.
The Boca U14s continued their perfect record while the U16s lost a tough 1-0 match in their best played game of the Super Y season.
The Boca U14s got off to a quick start and easily cruised past Ironbound 5-2. Justin McGrath tallied a hat trick for Boca. Boca’s keeper Eddie DeGothal had a solid defensive effort between the pipes. The victory puts the Boca U14s in sole possession of first place in the U14 Super Y-Leagues Mid-Atlantic division with 20 points.
In the second match of the day, the Boca U16s probably played their best game of the Super Y-League season thus far, just falling short to Ironbound in the last 2 minutes of the match. Boca U16 goalkeeper Nick Lyons of Jackson, NJ, turned back Ironbound’s attack for the entire match, making several spectacular saves.
Both the U14s and U16s travel to Downingtown, PA Thursday evening to face powerhouse FC Delco.
