Exhibition game helps to finalize rosters as summer season approaches
MULLICA HILL, NJ (May 22, 2005) – The Jersey Shore Boca U23 and U20 men’s teams traveled to Gloucester County on Sunday afternoon and took on a men’s select side from the South Jersey Adult Soccer League in a full ninety-minute exhibition game as both teams continue to prepare for the 2005 summer soccer season.
Versh Tivzenda of the Boca U20s battles a South Jersey player for the ball in first half action on Sunday afternoon at Mullica Hill. The combined Boca U23 and U20 teams dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision in the friendly match. |
The Boca U20s started the match and played the first forty-five minutes. Although Boca played an aggressive and attacking style of soccer and out shot South Jersey for the entire half, the U20s could not capitalize on some good scoring chances and lost the opportunity to pull out in front several times.
South Jersey put one in the back of the net mid-way through the first half for the only score at half-time.
The U23s took the pitch for the second stanza and quickly tied the game as Boca’s Javier Zuniga lofted a 30 yard ball past the SJSL keeper who was off his line.
With the score tied mid-way through second half, South Jersey converted on a penalty kick and then each side tallied one goal apiece to end the match 3-2 in favor of South Jersey.
Since January, both Boca teams have been identifying players and trying to solidify their rosters as both teams will participate in the Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL) this summer.
The 2005 MSSL Summer season will kick-off the first week-end in June for both teams.
The Boca U23 and U20 teams play their final exhibition game on Sunday May 29th as both teams travel to North Jersey to face the men’s open team from Secaucus FC.
The Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League is a second year regional soccer league fostering high-level competition during the summer months at both the youth and adult ages in which Jersey Shore Boca was an inaugural member last year.
The adult level of MSSL is specifically designed for collegiate players under the age of twenty-three and is fully sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), the national governing body for adult amateur soccer.
Because of the league’s regional affiliation with the USASA, MSSL is awarded wild-card entries by the USASA into their annual Under-23 and Under-20 Regional Championships.
