Niko Gkionis has returned to training for RFC Liege after picking up a pre-season ankle injury days before the start of the season.

“The injury is better and I was happy to return to training today,” the Jersey native told YA. “I didn’t feel much pain but I still need to strengthen my ankle a little. I’m not yet 100% but getting there.”

The All-American from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey is hoping to break into the first team as soon as possible but will have to wait and see what happens.

“For this weekend I am not sure,” he continued. “I will feature in the reserve match on Friday night against Ostende. We do have some injuries so who knows, with a good performance on Friday I maybe could jump right in there.”

Liege has not come out of the starting gate running, having suffered a pair of defeats while just picking up one point in their first three outings.

“My goal is to regain the good form I had going before the injury. If I do that I will be OK.”

Royal Liege will host KV Oostende on Saturday night as they look for their first win of the season.
