Jersey Shore Boca women gear up for spring season

TOMS RIVER — The Jersey Shore Boca women’s open team will have its work cut out during the second half of the 2009-10 season as the Garden State
winter break ends and spring play begins in March.
Heading into the first round of league play after the break, Boca sports an overall league record of two wins, two ties and five losses in the Garden State Soccer League Women’s Premiere Division for seventh place with eight points.
The Peninsula Aztecs lead with 16 points.
Boca has scored 16 goals and allowed 28.
Katie Batiuk, a former Jackson Memorial High School and Rutgers University standout, leads Boca in scoring with five goals.
Former Rider University and Jackson Memorial midfielder Sarah Artale has netted four goals.
Boca will resume play March 28 when it hosts the Real Wyckoff at the John Patrick Sports Complex, Lakewood.
In Women’s Open Cup action, Boca topped the Philadelphia Flames, 5-2, last fall to advance to the semifinal round which will be played in May against the New Jersey Lions.
Former Red Bank Catholic player Kristen Kowit, a two-time All-American and two-time ODAC Player of the Year at Lynchburg College, coaches Boca with Bob DeStefano.
